What is a SEER rating?

If you’re shopping for a new heating and cooling system, you will come across a few different SEER ratings. The Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio is a standard used to measure how much cooling a system puts out for each unit of energy it consumes. In Arizona, your system must hit a minimum rating of 14.

Now, a higher SEER Rating may not mean less expenses in your future because you will pay more upfront costs, but a higher rating will provide more comfort.

How so?

Higher SEER equipment often include two components that lead to more comfort: a two-stage compressor and a variable speed blower. These components even out the cooling in your home, allowing for less hot/cold spots, and allow your system to keep humidity out of your home. Single-speed units turn off and on more – making it hard for air to mix and giving your system enough time to keep humidity out.  A longer low speed run time provides a dramatic increase in comfort levels.
