Many of us expect to see a lower energy bill when we come back from vacation. This is to be expected since we turned the air conditioning down before you left, and no one was using any of the lights or any energy since no one was home. But, why does it seem like the energy bill hasn’t gone down as much as we would have liked?
Some people forget that many appliances run even when no one is home. Other appliances even rum more often when we are gone because of a temperature difference in the home, or lack of maintenance when we are away.
Remember, that even thought you turned your air conditioner way down while you left for vacation, it will still periodically run because it is not off. Same with Swimming Pool Pumps and Water Heaters. All of these appliances are set to maintain a predetermined condition. Unless you tell them to do something else, they will keep on working just like you were home.
